Oluseyi Smith, OLY PEng
Founder

Seyi is a 2x Olympian (2012 & 2018) in athletics and bobsleigh. He volunteers wherever possible in the sport community, including numerous administrative roles with the COC Athlete's Commission, Athletics Canada, CSI Calgary, Athletics Alberta, Eco Athletes Advocacy Group and the IOC Sustainability & Legacy Commission.

Outside of sport, Seyi has a BEng in Electrical Engineering, an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology and is a licensed professional engineer in Alberta and Ontario.

Oliver Scholfield, OLY
Operations Lead

Oliver is an Olympian (2020) and currently plays on the Canadian Men's National Field Hockey Team. He volunteers as an ambassador for KidSport BC and is deeply committed to helping grow the sport of field hockey in BC with his club, Vancouver Hawks FHC.

Outside of sport, Oliver has BSc in Natural Resource Conservation and a Master of Management degree from UBC Sauder School of Business. He works as a consultant in various roles in Research & Development and Business Planning and strives to integrate sustainability into all aspects of his life.

Melissa Humana-Paredes, OLY
Specialist, Research

Melissa is an Olympian (2020), World and Commonwealth Games Champion and currently plays on Team Canada's Beach Volleyball Team.

Off the court she is involved in a number of initiatives. She is involved with the York University Women’s Volleyball Alumnae Council. She volunteers on the board of both the Canadian Olympic Committee & PanAm Sports Athletes Commissions, as well as the International Beach Volleyball Player’s Association. She’s an ambassador for Sea Going Green, a sustainable tourist consultancy and most recently an Eco Athletes Champion.

She completed her Communications Studies degree in 2017, graduating on the Dean's List while playing for the York Lions Volleyball Team. She is currently pursuing a Certificate in Business at Smith School of Business.

Donna Vakalis, OLY PhD
Scientific Lead

Donna Vakalis is a 2x Olympian (2012 & 2016) in modern pentathlon. While an athlete, she was actively involved in roles such as athlete representative, volunteer coach and bilingual motivational speaker on the value of clean air, active living, health and the environment.

Outside of sport, Donna is trained as an architect and has a PhD in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on green buildings and green systems. She has been awarded a Northern Star Award from Environment Canada, and volunteered for the Sierra Youth Coalition and UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Currently she holds a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council fellowship to investigate carbon, energy and occupant impacts of sustainable, healthy buildings.

Martha McCabe, OLY
Advisor

Martha is a 2x Olympian (2012 & 2016) in swimming. She placed 5th in London and was named Team Captain in Rio. She volunteers with the Canadian Olympic Committee and is an elected member of the Athlete Commission.

Outside of sport, Martha has a bachelors of Kinesiology from UBC and a Masters of Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the Smith Business school at Queen’s University. She is Founder and President of Head to Head (Est. 2016), an organization that promotes resilience and wellness through Olympian-led mentorship programs.
